My stay at Andaz Savannah was so amazing that I’ve added a requirement to hotels I stay at solo in the future.
There were a few reasons I chose this hotel. First, on this trip I wanted to use my credit card points as much as possible so I wanted to stay at a Hyatt. Second, I wanted to be closer to the Historic District rather than the river. Third, I had great things about the Andaz brand but what cinched it was Adventurous Kate recommending it to first time solo female travelers because of it being located on a well-lit square with a key access elevator.
ALthough my room was on the small side it was artsy and well-situated. The Andaz brand is high end with lots of amenities like sunset smores and yoga Saturday mornings on the rooftop. Although I didn’t do that I did take advantage at the bar. Every night I got a free wine or beer at happy hour and the first night I made dinner out of the two free appetizers I chose.
They were delicious, so much better than I expected.
The reason I fell in love with this hotel was the bar. It’s rather small just to the right of the lobby but so welcoming. It was artsy and cozy but stylish. It felt like a neighborhood bar. I met so many people there.
My first night I invited a guy I was talking to on the Ghost Tour I was going on. It’s called Dead of the Night and it was so fun. It wasn’t scary but the guide was knowledgeable and answered my questions. Plus the stories were so interesting, entertaining and from lots of different time periods.
The next day I was talking to the bartender at happy hour before dinner and they told the person that was waiting for there drink next to me that I was a dog groomer.
She had brought her Afghan Hound into the bar. She was so excited to meet me that she pulled me over to the couch they were at. Apparently they’re locals and frequent the bar often. She insisted on me taking pictures of her dog. She talked my ear off until I had to leave for my dinner reservation.
After dinner I got another drink at the bar. A couple was showing pictures of their dog to the bartender, so I struck up a conversation. They were my favorite people I met on this trip. They were from Texas and I talked with them until closing time.
I had no idea how much fun I’d have meeting new people or what an ice breaker being a dog groomer would be. I’ve already picked hotels with interesting bars for my next trip.
