For our last night of the trip, I wanted something special and I’ve always wanted to go glamping.
When we arrived we saw that it was behind a hotel and we were stopped and asked to wait before driving down because of a wedding ceremony outside. We were directed inside the hotel for a glass of wine in compensation for the delay. The owner of the hotel was running the lobby bar. He invited us to peek at the wedding reception area while he got our wine. The wedding was apparently Game of Thrones themed so we snuck a peek.
We enjoyed our glasses of wine in front of the fire. When the ceremony was done we said goodbye to the owner and found out the wedding would have fireworks that night.
We parked by the bathrooms and headed to the communal tent in the center. The tent had a reception desk to check in along with a bar, seating for meals, a games library, a gift shop for extra amenities, and a phone and electric lantern charging station. When we checked in we were given 2 tokens for Smores and a map to our tent.
Our tent was amazing, we had the tent without the heater but we were plenty warm.
For dinner, we took all the food we had left and brought it to the fire pits. On the weekends there are food trucks and live music in the evening. I’d love to go back for a weekend, but I’d have to plan further in advance because the weekends book quicker than I thought. I got hard cider from the bar and mulled cider as it got cooler in the night. The center tent is warm with heat lamps and there is a setup for 5 firepits. Only 2 were lit because there weren’t that many people that night. It’s really nice because you sit to enjoy the fire and the outdoors, Everyone is at the firepits so we got to know the other guests.
At the beginning of the night, we talked to this couple from Toronto. He was a photographer coming back from New York City on business and she tagged along for a mini vacation. They stopped there for the night to see Watkins Glen the next day.
Later on in the evening, a large Israeli family joined us. The mom of some of the kids was from New York City and her father brought a few of his younger children from Isreal on vacation with them. My mom talked for a while with both of them. The kids were fun. They convinced me to use both of our Smores tokens when I wasn’t planning on using them.
One of the kids was quite the charmer, he sweet-talked numerous tokens out of the staff for more Smores. You’re supposed to pay after the first one. I had a great time helping them roast the marshmallows.
We got tired fast and it was a long travel day tomorrow so we soon said goodbye to everyone.
As we got to our tent the fireworks started and we had a great view from our porch.
The next morning we woke refreshed and ready for the complimentary breakfast. It was very good and we caught up with the other guests before hitting the road on our way home.
