In November I went on my first solo trip, to Charleston and Savannah. I’ve been to Charleston before and was curious to see how Savannah compared.
Charleston and Savannah have very different characters that I could feel just by walking around. Walking around is my favorite thing to do in Charleston, Especially the French Quarter and South of Broad. Once you get away from the businesses on King St there are so many quiet places to explore.
I love the gas street lamps and brick lane alleys like Stolls or Philadelphia Alley.
The old houses are gorgeous with a genteel quality that distances outsiders in a similar way the locals do.
In Charleston I felt like an esteemed visitor that can only experience the surface beauty.
Savannah is equally beautiful but has a different spirit of laid back elegance and vibrancy. I still saw charming old buildings but everywhere is more approachable and everyone more energetically friendly.
Savannah is a younger town than I was expecting with College students and young entrepreneurs.
Some areas were buzzing with creativity.
I love Charleston but I think there is more to do in Savannah. I’d recommend going to both cities though.
